Environment and Diversity Program
Sierra Club Ontario (SCO) is a collaborative partner in the Environment and Diversity Project. The SCO is committed to enhancing diversity and inclusion within the organization and in our outreach. The E&D Project is an exciting four-year collaborative initiative led by the Sustainability Network. SCO is one of the six environmental non- profit organizations partnered in this collaborative. Click here to see the other partners in this project.
As a part of this exciting venture Sierra Club is committed to consider, develop and implement strategies to better reflect and engage under- represented communities. In alliance with the Sustainability Network Sierra Club is working to develop a Diversity Action plan for itself that will result in broader participation and inclusion of non-traditional groups in our environmental work.
Since 2009, SCO is on a journey to imbibe and celebrate diversity. Deepa Hazrati is Sierra Club’s Metcalf Foundation Intern and is currently engaged in developing an evaluation framework and analysis of SCO’s organizational diversity.

Collective Impact! The Environment & Our Diverse Society was a great success! Nearly 100 changemakers gathered at the Evergreen Brick Works on Friday, June 3 to learn from each other and discuss ways to help the environmental movement change to better reflect various ethno-cultural and Aboriginal communities.
Keynote Presentations were given by Michael Adams (Environics) about "Canada’s Immigrants and the Environment". As well, Robin Cardozo, of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and Melissa Shin, of Corporate Knights on why the environment movement needs to connect with diverse communities. ... Read more »
Sierra Club Ontario welcomes new EDP intern Andrea Chan
Submitted by Kristina Jackson on Thu, 2011-05-05 19:30SCO is happy to announce a new addition to the Chapter office: Andrea Chan came on board in April 2011 to work on the Environment & Diversity Project (EDP). With a background in Psychology, previous experience in program management, and a passion for sustainability, Andrea is excited to develop new strategies to bring diversity to SCO’s programming and team, from volunteers to staff to board.
One way in which SCO’s outreach activities can be broadened is with this year’s Car Free Day activities: Andrea will be helping new neighbourhoods and municipalities celebrate alternative forms of transportation and encourage more active lifestyles in their communities. 2011 marks the 11th year that SCO is supporting International Car Free Day programming in Ontario, and Andrea would like to make these events the most inclusive they can be!... Collective Impact! Conference June 3

The event is designed to build a more inclusive environmental community and help the environmental nonprofit community better reflect ethno-cultural and Aboriginal communities. The gathering will present speakers as well as facilitated and informal networking and an evening mixer to highlight the opportunities for tangible and positive environmental change.
